Since 1968 when Jacksonville (called Cowford from 1791-1822)
consolidated their county government, it has been the largest city
in area in the continental United States. Jacksonville has
approximately
850,000 residents and over 1,278,000 in it's metro area
making it the third most populated city on the east coast. Its
parks, miles of beaches, waterways, major symphony orchestra, a
sports entertainment complex and a myriad of
special events add to Jacksonville's quality of life.
Jacksonville is the home of the NFL Jaguars and has one of the
largest urban
park systems in the country which encompasses 82,000 acres
of land providing camping, hiking, biking, boating, fishing,
kayaking, swimming, surfing and volleyball. Due to its convenient
location, mild climate,
reasonable cost of living and high quality of life,
Jacksonville is a popular city for relocation. Jacksonville has an
abundance of superb sports and recreational facilities like the
76,000-seat Jacksonville Municipal Stadium, the award winning 10,000
seat Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville and a new, state of the art
arena seating 16,000, and is home to the Professional Golfers'
Association (PGA) Tour and the Association of Tennis Professionals
(ATP). Jacksonville is also known for its more than fifty
golf courses. |
